Black Radiance Moisturizing Lip Stain in Rich Cranberry: Review, Photos, & Swatches

The longevity of a lipstick with the brilliant shine of a gloss. This richly pigmented color applied
from a purse friendly slant tip applicator tube provides a lip look that lasts the whole day through.

 Where to Buy: Drugstore.com, $2.99

The Black Radiance Moisturizing Lip Stain in Rich Cranberry ($2.99 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is the definition of an impulse buy that I grabbed from Drugstore.com while they were having their 40% beauty sale which I did a little haul post on! I'm always on the hunt for more stains since they're work friendly since I don't have to be concerned about re-apply them again and again, so a girl can never have too many in my book. The Black Radiance Moisturizing Lip Stains are supposed to last as long as your traditional lipstick with the same pigmentation but still stay glossy lasting the entire day. Well I put that to the test!

Texture:

The Black Radiance Moisturizing Lip Stain in Rich Cranberry has a very weightless feel on the lips, it's almost as if you're just wearing a slick lip balm. The slippery texture of Rich Cranberry causes it to move around and collect in certain areas of the lips like in the corners of your mouth and around the edges.

Pigmentation:

Black Radiance says their Moisturizing Lip Stains are "richly pigmented color", but that is certainly not the case. It's extremely sheer, like little girl's lip glosses that are super bright in the tube but pretty much translucent. Rich Cranberry does amplify your lip color a tad, but I won't go as far to say it gives you a just-ate-a-cherry-popsicle look, it looks more like you just have naturally reddish toned lips.

Scent and Flavor:

You'll be happy to know that Rich Cranberry has no smell to it, not even the plastic-y one that unscented lip products can have, and absolutely no taste!

Staying Power:

Due to the really slick texture, Rich Cranberry doesn't stick around for more than an hour on me. As for the claim that this is a lip stain? Not at all, there's absolutely no color left on my lips. I do however love how moisturized it leaves my lips feeling, probably due to the fact that there's Shea Butter in these.

Packaging:

I'm not crazy about tube type packaging for lip gloss just because I think you can end up getting way too much product, the slant tip applicator doesn't allow for a really precise application, and lip gloss just tends to collect in the cap. I do however think putting the Black Radiance Moisturizing Lip Stains in a squeeze-y tube was a smart choice because the product is so liquidy. The writing on my tube is already starting to come off, which bothers my OCD more than you will ever know!

Final Verdict:

You know I really wish companies would just call products what they actually are, it would save us beauty junkies a lot of money because we wouldn't be buying makeup thinking it's supposed to be something else. Black Radiance this is not a lip stain, it's merely a lightly (and I mean lightly) tinted lip balm. I like how much moisture these give my lips, but I probably won't be breaking out my Black Radiance Moisturizing Lip Stain in Rich Cranberry anytime other than when I don't want to look like I'm wearing any makeup! It may be cheap, but the quality certainly reflects that so save your pennies and look for stains elsewhere.

  1. Too bad this brand falsely advertised the product, because I was excited that this lipstain was applied like a lipgloss.

    1. Yeah ti was pretty disappointing :/ But I have heard L'Oreal is coming out with a dupe for the YSL GLossy Stains!

  2. Black Radiance is a good brand, but I prefer Sephora Brand Lush Flush Lip Stain. It can help me keep the long lasting coloring on my lips all day long.
