Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef: Review, Photos, & Swatches

Silky...Sexy...Brilliant. Glossy formula combines sheer color and intense moisture with light-reflecting spheres to create amazing shine.

EXPERT TIPS:

Apply directly to lips for a sheer, high-shine look or over Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick for a more intense lip look.

Where to Buy: Drugstore.com, $6.99

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef ($6.99 for 0.2 fl. oz.) is supposed to be an intensely shiny formula that also moisturizes the lips complete with an SPF of 15. Coral Reef is a beautiful orange with a tinge of pink. Available in 11 other shades: Peach Petal, Firecracker, Pink Pop, Lilac Pastelle, Shine City, Nude Lustre, Pink Afterglow, Pearl Plum, Pink Whisper, Foiled, and Pink Pursuit.

Texture:

The texture of Coral Reef is slightly sticky but nothing so extreme that it makes the gloss uncomfortable to wear. It has a medium consistency, not quite slick like those more water-y feeling glosses and not quite MAC Lipglass thick! You have to be careful when applying, making sure you don't put too much on because Coral Reef tends to get a little built up in areas which make it look uneven (especially around the edges of the lips).

Pigmentation:

One swipe of the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef gives you awesome color, almost exactly what you see in the tube! Its not one of those glosses that's on the verge of being too pigmented to the point where its not really wearable. It has medium opacity so you can really get away with putting it on without a mirror and it lets a little bit of your natural lip color show through so it has a softer effect than the striking coral it looks like in the tube.

Scent and Flavor:

Unless you're holding the doe foot applicator right up under your nose, you'll be happy to know there's pretty much no scent! I never notice anything when I'm popping Coral Reef on my lips, and there's absolutely no taste to it during wear.

Staying Power:

Since the Super Lustrous Lipglosses only have a slightly tacky texture to them, they suffer a bit in the longevity department. When I say that I don't mean they're terrible and wear off after 30 minutes, but I never get more 2 hours out of Coral Reef. This gloss is intensely shiny and it does stay that way for about an hour and then starts to fade. Like I mentioned before, you don't need a mirror to apply this color so its not like I'm horribly bothered by having to re-apply! I do however really love that when this wears off I can tell it has moisturized my lips while I was wearing it, you're not going to be left with a chapped mess! There's no sinking into lip lines either as you wear Coral Reef, but do beware it wears off unevenly and starts to get patchier.

Packaging:

Right off the bat you probably notice that the Super Lustrous glosses are packaged very Chanel-esque, classy black with a gold accent in a square tube! The tube is actually a bit shorter than a regular lipgloss which results in it being a little fatter. I love that its square so it stays where you put it, drives me nuts when lip products roll off my vanity! The Super Lustrous Lipglosses come with a standard doe foot applicator, which I've always found perform better for application as opposed to brush or different shaped doe foot applicators.

Final Verdict:

As I've always said and will continue to say, Revlon makes the best lip products! I've been neglecting my ridiculously high pile of other lipglosses because I always reach for this one. I love that Coral Reef isn't too intense that its high maintenance, the texture is a little sticky but manages to leave my lips moisturized, and the way my lips shine is incredible. I wish the Super Lustrous Lipglosses wore a little longer, but there are so many pros that I really can't complain that much! These are relatively cheap, especially if you can catch them on a sale at the drugstore and I will continue to buy them until I own every shade!

  1. I've been thinking about getting one of the Revlon glosses for ages - I love their packaging. I really like the colours in the Colorburst range as well - there is a bright orange one that I kind of love. Glad to see you gave it such a good review, you might have convinced me to pick one up now :)

    1. You NEED them Seonaid! I didn't even know what a good lipgloss is until I tried Revlon!! The Colorburst range is fab as well, they have much more shimmery shades (I have one in Sunset Peach that is actually wonderful). Only trouble is I need to finish like 20 other lipglosses before I allow myself to replace them all with Revlon ones ;)

    1. Revlon is fantastic for glosses, but I would also recommend you check out ones from NYX! They smell like candy and have great pigmentation/more shades than the Revlon ones come in. Either way those 2 brands make the best glosses I've ever tried!
