Walgreens & Rite Aid Haul

So I spent my Saturday doing a little drugstore shopping while the rest of Massachusetts was preparing for hurricane Irene!

I was honestly more worried about the large spider that decided to make its new home in the lamp above my bed (and the general increase of those vile creatures in my room...) than the hurricane. I've been through my fare share of terrible weather in the past so not much phases me anymore! Other than a mass amount of flooding, nothing much happened in my area, but I hope everyone else made it through safe and sound!

Anyways, I took advantage of Walgreens' 40% off Revlon sale and Rite Aid's 40% off Wet N Wild sale.

Walgreens:

Revlon ColorStay Combination/Oily Skin in 220 Natural Beige
Price: $8.09

I've come to the conclusion that I desperately need more coverage than a powder foundation gives, but something that still has oil control properties. I've heard nothing but fab things about Revlon foundations in general, so the 40% off sale was just extra incentive to try it out! I will say though the shade selection was a little weak, a lot of the colors had yellow undertones, but 220 Natural Beige seems like it will be a good match for my N5-NW20 skin.

Clean & Clear Boost Mango & Papaya Morning Burst Body Wash
Price: $.99

This was one of those things that caught my eye as I was checking out with its lovely neon orange packaging (damn those strategically placed items...). I already have the little sample size of the blue Splash body wash (not my fave, review of that coming up) so I thought I'd give this one a chance since I'll be needing a little body wash when I go to visit my dad for 10 days in a couple of weeks. I'm very pleased with my impulse purchase since this smells absolutely divine!

Rite Aid:

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color in Think Pink
Price: $1.79

I've been trying to get into more pink makeup instead of sticking to my trusty corals, so I thought I'd give this lipstick a try while it was on sale! I have since tried it out and think its total rubbish! The damn cap was pretty much screwed on, so that was a battle in itself, but then I tried to twist the lipstick bullet up and it wouldn't budge...completely fail in the packaging department Wet n Wild. When I did manage to get the color on my lips it looked rank, totally splotchy and cakey.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Blusher in Pearlescent Pink
Price: $1.79

I have the other 3 Wet n Wild Color Icon Blushers and adore them, so it only made since to pick up the only one I don't have! I think this is going to make a great summer to fall transition color since it does have some brown in it but still a nice amount of shimmer.

Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in Walking on Eggshells
Price: $1.79

Everyone and their mother raves about the Wet N Wild eyeshadow trios, so I thought it was about time I jumped on the bandwagon! I bought all of the neutral trios since I knew I just wouldn't use any of the ones with the brighter shades. I have yet to open any of these, but the colors looking stunning!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in I'm Getting Sunburned
Price: $1.79

Just look at that absolutely gorgeous gold shade! That color alone justifies picking up this palette, and apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so because this was the last trio on the shelf. I'm a little bummed to just be getting this now towards the end of the summer, it would have been nice to rock a golden lid in June/July, but whatever, it'll transition to fall and this make a great shade for Christmas party eyes!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in Silent Treatment
Price: $1.79

The last neutral Wet n Wild trio, I'm excited to experiment with this one because I've never worn taupe colored shadows, I'm curious to see how they'll look with my brown eyes! I don't really understand why Wet n Wild likes to include that pink "brow bone" shade with a lot of their trios? Pink shadows don't really appeal to me, I kinda wish they would just put the classic white!

June Favorites!

MAC Studio Fix Powder in "N5"
I love to just dust this on my face when its too hot out to be bothered with any liquid products (which seems to be every day now)! It helps control my oily skin and give me a matte finish so I can go longer without pulling out blot paper.

Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in "Beige Pearl"
Since I need to keep my face extra matte in the summer, I use this powder to give me a little bit of a glow on top of my cheek bones and down my nose!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick in "Crush"
I don't usually like to wear heavy lip products in the hotter months, but I'm in love with this color as it just screams "summer" to me! It's a coral-y pink color that's easily built up so you can make it as sheer or opaque as you want, and it's one of the more wearable bright lipsticks I've seen from the drugstore.

Bath & Body Works Pomegranate Citrus Trial Body Lotion
If you didn't already know, Bath & Body Works is coming out with their full Signature Citrus line on July 5th, and I'm sure you can still grab these little trial sizes at your local store or online. I absolutely love love love this one since it's sweet, tangy, and a little bit musky all at the same time! Some of Bath & Body Work's scents can get a little repetitive, but I can't say I've ever smelt anything like this from them before!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Blusher in "Berry Shimmer"
This color is perfect for going out at night in the summer, it looks fantastic with a tan and gives your cheeks a stunning glow! The color always looks so gorgeous in the pan that I end up putting too much on every time, gotta work on that!

Sephora Collection Super Shimmer Lip Gloss in "Desert Gold"
This gloss makes my lips look gold and shimmery, perfect on its own or over any other lipsticks! It gives me a more tanned look and smells like candy, win win!

Physicians Formula Les Botaniques Botanical Bronzer in "Sunny Buddy"
How adorable is this little sunflower bronzer? I can't help but smile when I dust this all over my face to give me a little more shimmer, as it doesn't really have enough pigmentation to really be a bronzer, but gives a lovely glow to the skin!

COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Shadows in "Cafe Au Lait"
I really can't be bothered to spend more than two minutes on my eye makeup when I'd rather be out in the sun, so this trio is amazing since it contains your highlight, lid, and crease color all in one! The shadows aren't very pigmented, but I like that since I don't need to blend them very well.

Bath & Body Works Peach Citrus Trial Body Lotion
Again I think this is one of Bath & Body Work's most unique scents, you get a lovely tangy/sweet combo that is really refreshing after a cool shower. Another plus is that these new fragrances seem to last longer on my skin than some of the other new releases, I can still smell it hours later!

                     Swatches:

Left to Right: MAC Studio Fix Powder in "N5", Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in "Beige Pearl", Sephora Collection Super Shimmer Lip Gloss in "Desert Gold"

Being a fan of True Blood, I was SO excited when I heard Tarte was launching this new collection! But after seeing the products they came up with, it leaves a little to be desired. True Blood has SO many things they would have worked with to come up with a cohesive collection that accurately ties in the show, but Tarte really didn't seize the opportunity!

Let's start off with the eyeshadow pallet, the colors are all very wearable neutrals (which if you've ever seen the show, there is a lot of bold makeup) so I'm guessing that was just a ploy to get the pallet to sell more. Honestly, I thought about buying it because the colors do look stunning (don't hate the player, hate the game) but I'm a huge packaging fanatic, and I can't get over how ugly the outside of this pallet is! I can see how Tarte was trying to capture the sexy element of True Blood, but the corset is just cheap looking and I wouldn't want to add that into my collection. It's such a bummer about the packaging, since the pallet comes with all the extra elements like an eye primer, eye liner, and mascara.

The cheek stain on the other hand, looks gorgeous! I love how the packaging is simple and sleek with just the True Blood logo. The color of the stain itself actually looks like a true blood red (get the pun?) that would be gorgeous for fall and winter to give you that just-came-in-from-the-cold flush. Tarte's cheek stains have a good reputation for being top notch, but I don't know if I really want to shell out the 30$ for just one product! Plus, my skin is oily, so I don't know how a liquid product like a stain would fair on my cheeks throughout the day.

Again, the lip tint has the much better classy packaging, but the color doesn't look much different from Tarte's existing collection of LipSurgence Natural Lip Tints. The price tag of $24 on this product isn't as damaging to my budget, but I'll have to swatch it myself to see what the color payoff is like and whether I'm okay with it being mint-infused, since minty things can sometimes irritate my lips/ I'm not a fan of the tingly sensation you sometimes get.

Overall, I'm not too impressed with Tarte's True Blood collection. There's so much that could be done with that theme, so it seems like such a waste to only release three products!

                    Wal-Mart Haul

I picked up a few little jems on my last Wal-Mart run that I thought I'd share with you even though I'm happy with about 1 out of 4 purchases haha!:

-Maybelline Fit Me Blush in "Medium Coral"
I still had a coupon for any Maybelline Fit Me product from my lovely little Wal-Mart samples, so since I already had the foundation I decided I wanted to try these blushes! I have to say thumbs up for Maybelline on the packaging for this line, its much sleek-er than any other drugstore brands I've seen. I'm kind of kicking myself over buying this because when I got home I realized it looks an awful lot like my Wet N Wild Color Icon Blusher in "Mellow Wine" that I just bought in a Rite Aid Haul with a tad more pink. But hey, shame on you Wal-Mart, you should have had a bigger color selection

-L'oreal Wear Infinite Studio Secrets Professional Eyeshadow in "Autumn Leaves" for Blue Eyes
First off, I'd like to point out how much of a mouthful that is in case you didn't already notice! I know L'oreal's H.I.P. eyeshadows are supposed to be really good, but I leaned towards this since it was on sale and I had a coupon. I liked the colors of this quad in the store since they look really bronze-y, I figured I could get away with a lot of summer looks using these shadows. But I must say, I've only used these eyeshadows once and am kicking myself again, they're pretty terrible (chalky, hard to blend, not pigmented)! Sheesh, it just wasn't my day at Wal-Mart, but you win some and you lose some

-St.Ives Fresh Skin Make-Up Remover & Facial Cleanser
I'm on such a St.Ives kick after loving their Apricot Scrub! I saw this on the St.Ives website and really wanted to get it since I don't have a makeup remover and I've never really heard much about this one from the beauty community. I've had the chance to use this a couple of times, and I love it so much I'm beginning to think I should try all the St.Ives products! The only issue I had is this one particular cleanser was super hard to find, I looked at least three different places before coming across this one, and it was the last on the shelf

-Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara in "Black Organics"
If you haven't already heard about the Physicians Formula $5 coupon going around, get it now! I honestly didn't think I would get any use out of that coupon since all Physicians Formula products are pretty expensive, but if you really look through their stuff you can get away with $1.00 and $2.00 items. Plus that coupon can be printed as many times as you want, and its good until June 15, 2011, so stock up and keep them in your wallet. Wal-Mart didn't have a great selection of the cheaper Physicians Formula products (go to Rite Aid if you want some super good values) but this mascara was there for $8.00, which means I got it for a steal $3.00 and that's a good value for any mascara let alone Physicians Formula! I've heard nothing but good things about this since people who went to the Beautylish event got it in their gift bags. I'm excited to try this out, but I'm a little bummed I got it in the color "Black Organics" and not "Ultra Black Organics" but there's probably no noticeable difference

COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows in Pure Romance

This collection of great shades is handpicked by our makeup pros and designed to make your eye look go from day to night. They blend effortlessly to bring your eyes out beautifully, without overshadowing. Experiment using them together or as single shades.
                    • Matte, pearl, and sparkle shades
                    • Handpicked by our makeup pros to make your eye look go from day to night
                    • Blends easily without overshadowing
                       How To Apply:
                    1. Dust the second-lightest shadow in your 4-Kit palette from your lash line to brow line.
                    2. Blend the second-darkest shade along the crease of your eyes.
                    3. Run the darkest shade along your upper and lower lash lines.
                    4. Blend and highlight the lid and brow bone with the lightest shade.

I bought this COVERGIRL quad at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago for about $4.84 since I'm trying to expand my eyeshadow collection without breaking the bank! Of all the different quads in the store, I thought Pure Romance would nice for spring since its filled with a nice pastel pink and a shimmery brown. When I wear this quad, I put the lightest pink all over the lid, the purple shade in the crease, the white as a highlight under the brow bone/the inner corner, and the dark shimmery brown as eyeliner on my lower lashline. I didn't really like the look I got from this shadows together, as the purple color looks a little bruise-y on the eye, and I'm not really into the whole "I just got decked look"! But I find that the colors work really well on their own. I love the shimmery white, it makes a great highlight and gives off a glow-y effect when you catch the light plus it really brightens up the inner corner. The other color I also get regular use out of is the brown. At first I thought it was going to have to much shimmer to be used as liner on my lower lashline, but the shimmer doesn't transfer very well and its become an everyday staple in my eye routine!

Pros: Can't beat the $4.84 price tag! These shadows are really soft and I haven't had any trouble blending them out. I always wear this quad with my Two Faced Shadow Insurance and haven't had a problem with getting them to last through the day (7-ish hours of wear in a sweaty school). You can tell from the swatches that there isn't much color payoff, but I love that since it makes it super hard to mess up!

Cons: Since these shadows are so soft, you have to be gentle when dipping a brush in otherwise you'll get a powder-y mess (made that mistake the first couple times I used this quad!). These shadows have pretty weak pigmentation, even the dark brown color requires a few swipes. The little plastic/foam applicator is useless, I wish drugstore makeup companies would pick up on the fact that people just throw those away and stop including them, it would make me feel less wasteful!

                    Overall:
I think these would be great for someone who's just starting with eyeshadow, or even if you're a pro these are a cheap way to expand your collection!

Clinique Pretty In Prints Spring 2011 Collection/Milly For Clinique

Michelle Smith, renowned designer of the women’s fashion and accessories label, Milly, brings her sparkling and sophisticated style to Clinique’s newest spring collection – Pretty in Prints. Michelle has teamed up with Clinique to create a limited-edition makeup palette of essential eye, cheek and lip colours for Spring 2011.
Exclusive to Clinique, the collection mixes rich browns with sweet pinks and is packaged in a sleek silver compact, adorned with a one-of-a-kind Milly print. The limited-edition Pretty in Prints compact is enclosed in a pouch designed by Michelle to showcase her signature Milly aesthetic.

                    About Milly:
The label was established in 2000, when founder/designer Michelle Smith returned to New York after working for Paris powerhouses like Hermès and Dior. The collections consistently turn out feminine pieces and classic silhouettes in personally designed fabrics and prints that appeal to socialistas as well as starlets on the preppy side. Milly has perfected the Palm Beach palette with Upper East Side polish.

                    MAC Jeanious Spring 2011 Collection

Is there anything more enduring (besides love and heartbreak) than denim? Jeanius is a
celebration of the journey – country cousin to haute couture – the whole world wanted to go on
since America made it a national obsession. Since tooth-and-nail workwear jumped the pond in
farmer’s overalls to gussy up in the glam of the great Paris couture houses...France may take the
credit for creating it in 18th-century Nimes (de Nîmes = DeNim), but bright young American
women took it higher! M·A·C keeps up with a Jeanius collection of moody blues and indigo ink,
the quantum of modern cool, with four new limited-life denimised Eye Shadows, along with new
limited-life shades of Lipstick, Lipglass, Blush and Biker Blue & Frayed to Order Nail Lacquer.
Like the faux-metal “snap” on the Eye Shadow…completely riveting.
